What scientists have discovered about gray hair

Gray hair, gray spots, hair regrowth… are things that have interested me for a long time. I try to come up with preparations that would simply help cover these ailments without unnecessarily burdening the hair.

However, I feel that it would be possible to intervene right at the beginning of the chain so that hair does not turn gray at all. Many things are already known and scientifically proven. For example, the amount of hydrogen peroxide in hair follicles increases with age. Excessive levels of hydrogen peroxide prevent the formation of melanin – hair pigment. Hair without pigment does grow, but it is essentially white. Peroxide is produced in hair follicles even in young people; it is a physiological process, but thanks to various reactions it quickly decomposes into water and oxygen. This is influenced, for example, by the enzymes catalase and glutathione peroxidase, which are strong antioxidants and are produced naturally in the human body. The older a person is, the less of these enzymes are produced or the sooner they are depleted, to cope with various diseases, inflammation, stress, toxins. These enzymes act throughout the body, not only on gray hair.

Since both enzymes are protein in nature and are made up of a number of amino acids, it is important to remember that our diet should be varied and that our bodies can draw the necessary substances for their production. For example, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower are strong antioxidants that reduce the level of peroxides in the body.

Do you notice dark spots on your skin? It’s one of the first signs of aging. We lack the enzymes that prevent free radicals from attaching to protein fibers, which causes collagen fibers to harden and shrink.

Other excellent antioxidants include ginger, green tea, resveratrol, flaxseed oil, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon. These are foods that we can easily add to our food. Of course, good sleep, exercise, meditation, not smoking, avoiding excessive sun exposure, moderate alcohol consumption are other factors that will improve our fitness, our health, our psychological well-being and perhaps even less gray or white hair.
