Natural or chemical?

I was born at a time when chemistry did not yet dominate every aspect of our lives and Mother Nature was the source of raw materials for our diet, but also the source of raw materials for beautifying our body and hair. That is why I made infusions and decoctions from nettle, chamomile, birch leaves, walnut shells or oatmeal and after washing my hair with shampoo I rinsed it with my infusion. With age, when I occasionally discovered the first gray hair, I again found help in nature.

I used henna, which perfectly covered and disguised the first gray hairs. After all, henna was already used 6,000 years ago, even then it was used to dye skin, nails, and hair. However, all of these home methods described above were more time-consuming.

Modern times are much faster and there is never enough time, so I chose more convenient and faster ways of dyeing my hair, i.e. chemical tints and dyes. I didn’t think about the composition at all, because hardly anyone did it at that time. The result was quickly visible and that satisfied me enough.

Since things like to come back, whether in fashion, cooking or taking care of our body, the era of organic “bio” products has returned. People started to address why chemicals are not so ideal for us and how they can harm us. Of course, these days it is mainly about business. I started to think about it, after all, it is about my health. I found on the Internet the really harmful substances that are demonstrably harmful to us and I simply stopped buying cosmetics that contain them. However, there are many synthetic, chemical substances that are not of organic origin and have been serving people for centuries to make their lives easier. I noticed that manufacturers of natural cosmetics do not always use the fact that it is a 100% natural product. Some cosmetic products simply cannot be made only from natural sources.

So I use common sense and don’t take everything to the extreme. I try to live healthy, eat healthy and take care of my health by thinking more about prevention than about eliminating damage. I buy both natural and unnatural cosmetics, but not harmful ones. I dye my hair, although it was a bit challenging to find the right cover color that doesn’t contain substances that are hazardous to health (I have a feeling that most companies probably ignore lists of toxic substances and ingredients). And I also sometimes make a decoction of oak bark or nettle infusion and rinse my hair. The main thing is that I have found harmony, peace and balance within myself. I recommend not to panic and stress, which may destroy us more than chemicals.
