You will definitely recognize it: You have unexpectedly received an invitation to a meeting, an evening with friends, or a work event, and you need to look beautiful and confident. However, how to achieve this when you no longer have time to go to the hairdresser and, moreover, your beauty and self-confidence are spoiled by overgrown gray hair? We know the solution: It’s a new generation of Colorwin gray cover sprays. It was invented by PharmDr. Jolanta Kantorová and her story is more than inspiring. Finally, judge for yourself…

How did the idea to produce Colorwin sprays to cover gray hair actually come about? And how long did it take from the decision to the moment when you were able to offer the first sprays to cover grays to your customers?

Although I worked in a pharmacy for almost a quarter of a century, I was close to entrepreneurship. At one point, I owned as many as five pharmacies.

However, I chose my profession in the last century. The image of the pharmacy then and the one today is diametrically different. I realized that the magic of alchemy and fragrance, which was very important to me, had already disappeared from pharmacies. What pharmacy offers today is about different values. The essence of giving advice, sharing worries with someone, showing how to take care of your health was lost with the flood of rules, standards, regulations and orders. The routine cycle tired me a lot, but at the same time I still felt enough energy and ideas for something completely different from my previous life. That’s why I left the pharmacy.

When I got the idea for the spray, there was nothing like it on the market. I thought it would be a dud. I just couldn’t calculate that the journey from idea to finished product was a very long and winding one. It took three years.

What were the beginnings like?

Right from the beginning, I was very proud of myself for coming up with the name Colorwin, which we registered as a trademark in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other surrounding European countries. However, it was only the first step. For me personally, a great lesson in patience was the period when we were working on the unique composition of our spray, which was not supposed to weigh down the hair. However, you can’t rush some processes and waiting times, and then you start to wonder if it’s worth it. It continued in a similar vein when we decided to protect the composition with a patent, when we were coming up with the product design, testing the spray, testing different types of atomizers so that the spray would be very gentle. It reminded me a lot of the fairy tale about the rooster and the hen – if you want this, you have to do that. But suddenly you’re already on the road and you don’t want to turn back, but you don’t want to give up either, so you keep going, step by step. When we finally produced our Czech spray, a few months before the launch of our spray, a similar product from a world-famous brand came on the market – and immediately with a TV commercial. And my friends asked – what now?

And you obviously made the right decision…

We decided to move on because we have a high-quality Czech spray with a completely different composition – a spray without liquid silicone, which we consider a huge advantage. Customers will appreciate it sooner or later. And now we need to start investing in marketing so that people learn about the benefits of our Colorwin. Flyers, advertising, press releases, the Internet, Facebook, Instagram, printing… When we have a product and advertising, we need to find the right channels for sales and distribution. You really can’t stop. I’m glad I didn’t have enough imagination and fantasy at the beginning, because I definitely wouldn’t have gone for it.

How did your closest friends accept your business idea?

My husband, who as a successful entrepreneur built a division from scratch in an unnamed Czech pharmaceutical company, supported me right from the start and joined the tandem after a year. The situation developed in such a way that I left marketing and sales matters to my husband, I take care of awareness and operations, while the children strengthen our family business in the field of social networks and new technologies.

Who is Colorwin spray intended for? What does a typical customer look like?

Our spray for covering gray hair is suitable for all women. For those who have their first gray hair and are starting to deal with it, as well as for women who already dye their hair regularly and know the feeling when gray hair that has already grown back shows up again, but do not have time to visit the hairdresser. With our spray, all women can feel groomed and younger in no time.

Nowadays, however, it is not only women who care about their appearance, but men are also paying more and more attention to it. Do you notice that this group is also growing among your customers?

Yes, that’s right, we’ve also started selling tinted shampoos for men. That’s why we’ve created Colorwin Men, a tinted shampoo with royal walnut, for men who don’t want to show their age with gray hair. It’s exactly the limit that most men are willing to go to when it comes to taking care of their appearance. They wash their hair at home with a tinted shampoo, but they probably won’t go to the salon regularly to dye their hair…

Colorwin sprays do not contain liquid silicone, which is still found in a wide range of hair care products. Why did you decide to look for an “alternative formula”?

The trend today is to place greater emphasis on the safety of cosmetics. The use of parabens, sulfates, and silicones is being phased out. Liquid silicones, when used for a long time, create a film on the hair that gradually layers, cannot be washed off the hair, and ultimately the hair is poorly colored. In Colorwin spray, we have replaced liquid silicone with a substance that evaporates immediately after spraying, so it does not burden the hair unnecessarily and does not stick. The hair is thus covered with only a very fine layer of natural pigments, but they are not glued together. The pigment can simply be washed out of the hair with regular shampoo.

Is the spray easy to apply?

Yes, it is. Just spray it on dry hair – and the regrown gray hair is instantly camouflaged! We also worked hard to choose a suitable sprayer that has a very fine dispersion and precise application. Thanks to the fine dispersion, our Colorwin spray lasts up to 50 applications, which is twice as much as the competition. In addition, Colorwin also smells nice and is very appreciated by hairdressers, who often encounter the consequences of cosmetics with liquid silicone in their work.

What products from the Colorwin line do you have in your portfolio?

Currently, it is Colorwin spray, Colorwin concealer in four color shades, and Colorwin Men – tinting shampoo in two color shades.

What do you consider to be the most significant competitive advantage of your products?

Our goal was to develop a spray that would work quickly and easily, be completely safe and contain harmless substances. We succeeded. Its composition is completely unique and, for obvious reasons, is protected by a utility model. We thought not only about the immediate effect, but also about the impact on the health of consumers and on nature. When I read how many substances some cosmetic products from world brands contain, I sometimes wonder why health and the environment are not important to those companies…

Where can interested parties buy Colorwin products from us?

We are glad that we managed to get our products into the 101 Drogerie store network in Slovakia, where customers can buy Colorwin spray on sale until the end of May for 5.95 Euros. If someone prefers online sales, Colorwin is also available on Alza.sk.

And to get even closer to our clients, we also sell through hair salons and hair wholesalers who contact us with interest in cooperation.

Can you tell us what your plans are for the future? Are you planning any other exciting new products under the Colorwin brand?

In recent years, I have discovered creativity in myself, which has been dormant for many years. So I have great joy and pleasure when I invent new, functional and simple things that help people. My head is full of ideas and our company is a suitable place where I can gradually implement them. You are a woman and a successful entrepreneur, and with your example you can inspire many other women who want to start a business. What would you say to them?

I like quotes, so I would answer this question like this:

“If you believe you can do it, you can do it, if you doubt it, you are right”. “If you want to reach your goal, you have to take the first step” and finally “The path to the stars is often thorny”.
