A Czech family-owned company is behind the development of a modern product for covering gray hair and hair regrowth
Has it ever happened to you that your hairdresser didn’t have time or unexpectedly fell ill on the very day you needed her the most, so you couldn’t shine at some special event? Well, you definitely don’t have to worry about that anymore, the Colorwin hair product has been launched on the market. This spray will solve your problem with gray hair or hair regrowth in a few seconds. Behind the Colorwin spray is PharmDr. Jolanta Kantor, who couldn’t find such a product on the Czech market and so decided to develop and produce it herself.

Briefly introduce your company to the readers.
The company was founded in 2015. We discovered a niche in hair cosmetics that had not received much attention, namely the coverage of gray hair and regrowth. Most companies produced hair dyes, but nothing else. We thought that people with gray hair would welcome more products and ways to cover gray hair that was unacceptable to them. We really liked the idea of launching a new brand and enriching this segment with new ideas and new products.
How did the idea to produce Colorwin sprays come about?
There is a saying that nothing strengthens you like your own handicap. Since I myself had gray hair and tried to mask it in any way. I was looking for a quick and easy solution. And then I found it, but already as a ready-made product on the shelf in a store in the USA. We wanted to import it to Europe at first, but in the end we decided to develop and produce our own spray. However, the road was more winding than we could have imagined.
How were the beginnings of your business?
I graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy. I worked in a pharmacy and eventually became a co-owner of five pharmacies. My husband worked in business for 25 years in a large Czech company. I always dreamed of having my own brand. We had enough experience, courage and desire to take on a new challenge, we registered the Colorwin brand and it all began.
We know that you work together, which can be not only a mutual challenge, but also a great challenge. Can you share your tips on how to have a great family business and a happy marriage?
A family business has a huge advantage in that you set the rules yourself. Of course, for everything to work, there must be discipline and order here too. No one has a problem with that here. We try to do everything honestly and with love. If we don’t enjoy something, we evaluate how to do it better so that it makes us happy. Obstacles are there to be overcome. One must be open to new things, to new knowledge. Our determination and attitude are very important.
If you have a reliable partner by your side, who can rise above imperfections and likes to laugh with you, it works in marriage and in business.
How is a new cosmetic brand launched and promoted on the market that is not backed by a world-famous company?
I am an optimist and I would not have thought that it would be such a long journey, full of pitfalls and that it would take so long to do all this. The development of the spray lasted 3 years. Right at the beginning, I was very proud of myself for coming up with the name Colorwin, which could be registered as a trademark in neighboring European countries. However, it was only the first step. For me personally, the period when we worked on the unique composition of our spray, which was not supposed to weigh down the hair, was a great lesson in patience. I could not speed up some processes and waiting times and I was starting to wonder if it was worth it. The next stages were also very lengthy, when we decided to protect the composition with a utility model, when we came up with the product design, tested and certified the spray, tested different types of atomizers so that the spray would be very fine. It reminded me a lot of the fairy tale about the rooster and the hen: if you want this, you have to do that. But suddenly we were already on the road and we didn’t want to turn back and we didn’t want to give up, so we kept going step by step. A few months before the launch of our spray, a similar product from a world-famous brand came onto the market and immediately had an advertisement on TV. And my friends asked, what now? We decided to move on, because we have a high-quality spray with a completely different composition and customers will appreciate it sooner or later. We need to start investing in marketing so that people learn about the benefits of our Colorwin. Leaflets, advertising, press releases, the internet, Facebook, Instagram, printing, distribution… I’m glad I didn’t have enough fantasy and imagination at the beginning, because I probably wouldn’t have gone for it😊. But when we got this far, I know that everything unpleasant is forgotten and Colorwin will find satisfied customers and will sell well. We are happy for every new customer, store or hairdresser that Colorwin offers.
What would you say is the biggest benefit of your Colorwin spray?
Our goal was to develop a spray that would work quickly and easily, be completely safe and contain harmless substances. Before we managed to combine all this and launch the spray on the market, a spray from another company was already on sale. However, our spray has one big advantage. Compared to most sprays in the world, we managed to replace liquid silicone as the main carrier substance with safe methylal. With regular use, silicone gradually builds up on the hair and creates a film that cannot be washed off. Hair covered with silicone dries out, becomes brittle, breaks more, and most importantly, dyes poorly. In contrast, the methylal in Colorwin spray evaporates immediately after application and does not weigh down the hair at all. The hair is covered with a very fine layer of pigment, but it is not stuck together. The pigment is simply washed out of the hair with regular shampoo. The composition of Colorwin spray is highly appreciated by hairdressers who struggle with the consequences of using cosmetics with silicone in their daily work.

Could you tell me which women most often use your spray?
Our spray is suitable for all women who are already dealing with their first gray hair, but also for those who have significant hair regrowth. Older women regularly dye their hair, but they know the feeling when hair regrowth appears again and a visit to the hairdresser is out of sight. With our spray, they can feel groomed and younger in no time.
The sprays are made in three color shades, but not all women have just one shade of brown… can the spray adapt to different hair shades?
We initially launched three spray colors that cover a wide range of hair colors. The dark brown spray is great for brunettes and black women. The light brown spray is great for those with light brown, chestnut and copper hair. The blonde spray, which also covers dark roots, is designed for light blondes. Because the spray is applied to a narrow area, the natural color and the spray color blend perfectly.
Of course, we are working on expanding the color range of our sprays. We are currently preparing to launch a black spray.
Are you planning any other new products in the Colorwin line?
Yes, we want to gradually introduce other interesting products with the Colorwin brand for gray hair coverage. And not only for women. We want to expand the Colorwin line to include a product for men, specifically a gray hair suppression shampoo. We would also like to launch a gray hair concealer in four shades soon.
